The lasers operate at TEM00, and cross-section profile of intensity within is beam is Gaussian. The graphs presented were obtained by calculation using the parameters of a real Gaussian beam.

The laser spot size is the 86% power level of the spot diameter. L1 is the distance from the laser (exit mirror) to the lens. (The spot diameter d (0.86P) is understood to be the diameter within which 86% of the beam power is contained.)
